I trained as a swimming teacher while pregnant with my third child. Feeling frustrated by the 9-5 routine and the lack of time I had to spend with my young children, I was looking for a job that offered flexibility and allowed me to spend more time with my children. Little did I know I would find not only a job that offered all these things, but a new way of life that I absolutely love!

During my years teaching swimming, I had dreamed about having a facility that was tailored to the needs of babies and young children and could meet the increasing demand for swimming lessons that I knew existed. In 2020, I made this dream a reality and opened Fife Swim Centre. I absolutely love what we have created here and I hope that when you come and join us, you too will love the centre and become not just a customer, but part of our ever-expanding community.

I took my son, Grayson, to a baby swim class and fell in love with the classes. Watching him explore the water and build confidence was fantastic and the things he was able to do in the water amazed me every week. I decided to train as a baby swim teacher and haven’t looked back.

As well as being a qualified baby and pre-school teacher, I am also a qualified lifeguard, aqua natal yoga teacher and a certified swimming coach. My most recent qualification was my Diploma in Baby and Pre-School Aquatic teaching which helped me expand my understanding of baby development. I am also a member of CIMSPA (the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) – this is just another way of saying I am accountable for maintaining the highest standards in the industry!

I absolutely love my job. Seeing the kids become confident in the water is incredibly rewarding.

After working in business banking, I built up my own successful transport and tour business before joining Fife Swim Centre. With a strong customer service background, I bring to the centre enthusiasm and a genuine love of working with people. I have a keen eye for detail and love nothing more than making sure the centre is super clean and welcoming for our swimmers.

I can often be found babysitting swimmers’ siblings at reception during classes (occasionally them babysitting me!).

Outside of swimming, I love spending time with my 5 dogs – Bella, Luna, Daisy, Ivy and Buddy – and am also a dog breeder.

As a mum to twins, I have been used to juggling work and childcare. This role allows me to find a great balance, giving me the best of both worlds. I didn’t take my own children to baby swimming, so this was a totally new world to me – but one that I love! I swam competitively growing up and have always had an interest in this area, so it is great to work in a sector I enjoy.

Watching the children develop every week is amazing and seeing mums and dads grow in confidence was an aspect I didn’t think about when I started teaching, but it gives me a real buzz and sense of pride.

Being the newest member of the team, I am really looking forward to developing my skills and gaining more qualifications moving forward to increase my knowledge of teaching older children and improvers.

I am a mum of two girls who both attended baby swimming lessons. I have always believed that swimming is a life skill and felt it was important that, as a parent, I felt confident in the pool with my daughters. I was amazed at how much progress my children made in the pool at such a young age and have enjoyed watching this life skill become a favourite hobby for them.

Swimming for me was always an opportunity to relax and a keen interest before I had children. It is now a fun family activity that we can all enjoy.
I love being part of the Octotots team, getting to know the families in our community and being part of their swimming journey.

I’ve spent the majority of my working life on, in, around or under the water in some way. I have been a SCUBA dive instructor, a shark feeder, a boat deckhand then skipper, and now a swimming teacher.

I first encountered swim classes six years ago when I was pregnant with my wee boy and came along to aqua-natal yoga classes. We started swimming lessons when my son was 9 weeks old and have been here ever since. I guess it’s no surprise that I joined the team, and I love teaching swimming to babies and kids!

I’ve been a swimming teacher for nearly 4 years now and absolutely love it. Watching little ones learn new skills and develop their confidence in the water makes it such an amazing job.

I attend lessons every week with my own daughter, and she’s grown to absolutely love swimming. I love being part of that journey for other children too.

Working across both Octotots and Octokidz, I get the best of both worlds. Watching little ones grow in confidence, learn to swim by themselves and then take their swim skills even further and progress into strong independent swimmers, is why I love my job.

I haven’t always been a swimming teacher but I’ve always worked with children. As a qualified sports coach and early years officer, I have lots of experience with child development and a variety of different sports.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll probably see me at one of the classes with my own two kids.

Swimming has always been a part of my life. First through lessons, then as part of a swimming club, and now as a qualified coach. You can find me most days either in a pool or on poolside.

My love of swimming runs deep so when the opportunity to become a swim teacher came up, I jumped on it. Watching the kids gain confidence and develop their swimming each week is what I love most about the job.

Outside of the swimming world, I am a college student and a dog parent.
