Octokidz

When teaching in our Octokidz classes we use the Swim Teacher Association’s International Learn To Swim Programme.

This is a great programme which allows us to ensure the swimmers are progressing each term and also helps us produce their termly reports. As well as our lessons each week, we also like to work on safety skills such as rescues, floating and safe entries.

Octokidz Beginners Classes - Octopus

These classes are for children age 6 and above with no swimming experience. As we do not use armbands in our lessons, a good degree of listening skills would be expected for safety reasons.

Our classes have 8 swimmers split into two groups of 4 with 2 instructors in the pool. As the groups are small we find that the children progress a little quicker. This is also due to the fact that our instructors know what stage each of their swimmers are at and what they need to work on.

Our main focus in beginners classes is confidence in the water, as well as beginner style strokes. Once the swimmers have mastered this, we can then move on to more intermediate activities. We also have a small number of classes available for older children who are at beginner level.

Octokidz - Goldfish

These classes are for children who can do basic swimming. They are confident swimming on their own in the pool and are needing to work on stroke technique. In these classes we work on strokes, breathing and timing as well as stamina. Again having the instructors in the pool instead of poolside makes it easier to pick up on both corrections and when a swimmer is improving with their technique. This can be a lengthy process depending on the swimmer and we also make classes fun by incorporating games and races etc.

Octokidz - Angelfish

These classes are a progression on from our Goldfish lessons. In order to book into these, swimmers must be able to confidently complete the Goldfish checklist. Our Angelfish level concentrate more on distance swimming, working on stamina and fine tuning technique. We also touch on rescue skills and lifesaving backstroke.

Octokidz - Shark

These classes are a progression on from our Angelfish lessons. In order to into these, swimmers must be able to confidently complete the Angelfish checklist. Our Shark level concentrate on 25-50m distance swimming, old English backstroke and swimming in our t-shirt.
